Rev. Omoviekovwa Alexander Nakireru
Rev. Omoviekovwa Alexander Nakireru was born in Lagos,
Nigeria. He was fourth in a family of eight children. His hometown is
Effurun, in the Delta State. In January 1964, the teenager entered St
Paul's Minor Seminary, Benin City, Edo State, to study for the priesthood.
When Nigerian Civil War closed the seminary he continued his studies at
St. Theresa's Minor Seminary, Ibadan, and graduated Seminary in 1969. In
1970, he entered the SS Peter and Paul Major Seminary to continue his
studies for the priesthood.
Father
Nakireru graduated in December 1977 with a bachelor of divinity degree and
was ordained a priest at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral, Warri,
Nigeria. His first assignment was as associate chancellor in the bishop's
office. A year later, his bishop reassigned him as associate pastor of St.
Ambrose Parish, Esieffurun. In 1980, Father Nakireru was admitted to study
at San Francisco State University, In 1981 he earned a second bachelor’s
degree, in philosophy and religion. In 1982, he received a master’s degree
in educational technology. He moved to Ohio University, Athens in 1985,
and earned a master’s degree in journalism and a doctorate in educational
telecommunication.
In 1986, Father Nakireru accepted an appointment as
assistant professor of telecommunication at Methodist College,
Fayetteville, NC. That same year he started work as a part-time chaplain
at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg. He left Methodist College in
1989, and moved to Fayetteville State University to teach
telecommunication. Later in 1993, he taught philosophy at Fayetteville
Technical College. He left Fayetteville State University to work as a
contract Chaplain with Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg.
Father Nakireru serves at St. Ann Catholic Church as
auxiliary priest and served at the Fayetteville Veterans Administration
Medical Center. He is completing his sixth college degree, an MBA in
computer resource and information management at Webster University, Pope
AFB.
He published his first book, "All I Wanted Was An
Education: The Epic Of A Foreign Student," in December 2000. The Iuniverse
Company published his second book, "The Fighter Pilot Who Refused to Die;
The Authorized Biography of Lt. Col. (Ret) Richard Suehr," in February
2004.
Father Nakireru is a certified photographer, a computer
enthusiast and a technician. He has a passion for perfection and
organization, a workaholic and a good listener who always finds time
render help to those in need.
